Verse Daily has selected Erica Dawson's poem "Rock Me, Mama" from Harvard Review 35.

Poetry Daily to feature Emma Neale's "Farewell Do"

Emma Neale's poem, "Farewell Do," will be featured on Poetry Daily Monday, March 2, 2009. Neale's poem is part of a special feature on New Zealand writing in Harvard Review 35.

Eva Hooker picked for Best New Poets 2008

Eva Hooker's poem, "Before the Spring in Which the Forsythia Bloom and She Unravels All Her Chambers, Mother Writes," which originally appeared in HR 32, was selected for Best New Poets 2008 by Mark Strand.

Harvard Review contributor awarded 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry

Philip Schultz, poet and director of the Writers Studio in New York, has been awarded the 2008 Pulitzer Prize in Poetry. He shares the award with former poet laureate, Robert Hass. Schultz's poem "The Traffic," which appeared in HR 33, is one of the poems featured in his Pulitzer Prize-winning book Failure.

Nina De Gramont and Jessica Greenbaum Finalists for 2008 Pushcart Prize

Nina De Gramont's essay Water Children and Jessica Greenbaum's poem The First, Youngest Men have been selected finalists for this year's Pushcart Prize. Both pieces appeared in HR 33.

Harvard Review Contributor wins Autumn House Poetry Prize

Miriam Levine, a contributor to Harvard Review 18, was just awarded the Autumn House Poetry Prize for her book of poems, The Dark Opens. Her poem, With You, which is included in the book, was first published in Harvard Review.

Harvard Review Contributor wins Drue Heinz Literature Prize

Anthony Varallo, whose story "Toro" appeared in Harvard Review 30, has just won the Drue Heinz Literature Prize for his second collection, OUT LOUD. The book is due out this fall from the University of Pittsburgh Press. Another story by Anthony, "Yearbook," appeared in Harvard Review 27.

 

Three Harvard Review Contributors Featured in Poetry Daily

Harvard Review is pleased to announce that three contributors to the current issue of Harvard Review have been featured on Poetry Daily. Eric LeMay's essay, Star Crossed Something-or-Others, was the prose feature of the week, and George Kalogeris's poem, "Saturday Night in the Village," were both features on the week for January 15, 2008. Jessica Greenbaum's poem "The First, Youngest Men" was featured on Monday, 1/28.

 

Kathryn Starbuck to be Featured in Best American Poetry Anthology

Harvard Review contributor Kathryn Starbuck has been selected as a contributor to this year's Best American Poetry (2008). Congratulations Kathryn!

Harvard Review Fiction Writer Picked as One of the "Top 5" Writers Under 35 Years Old

Charles Yu, whose very first published story, "Problems for Self Study," appeared in Harvard Review #23, has been selected by the National Book Foundation as one of 5 Under 35, a celebration of work by writers thought to be "among the best of a new generation." Editor Christina Thompson on Publishing in Lit Mags at CLMP's LWC}NYC on November 9, 2007

Christina Thompson will share her insights into literary publishing at the Literary Writers Conference in New York City. The conference is a three-day event for fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction writers who want to learn how to maneuver in the marketplace.

 

Major Jackson Joins Harvard Review as Poetry Editor

We are delighted to announce that Major Jackson has been appointed poetry editor of Harvard Review. Jackson is the author of two collections of poetry and winner of the 2000 Cave Canem Poetry Prize. He has been honored by the Pew Fellowship in the Arts and the Witter Bynner Foundation, and was a recent finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award and winner of the Whiting Writers' Award. He was a 2007 fellow at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University and he currently teaches at the University of Vermont and the Bennington Writing Seminars. Jackson will be taking over from Don Share, who recently left Harvard to take up a position as senior editor at POETRY magazine.

 

Harvard Review Farewells Don Share, Poetry Editor Since 2001

As many people are already aware, Don Share has left Harvard to join the editorial staff of POETRY magazine in Chicago. We wish him the very best in his new position and extend our deepest thanks for his tremendous contribution to Harvard Review over the past seven years. It's been great working with you, Don, and we will miss you!

 

In Memoriam: Harvard Review Remembers Poet, Sarah Hannah, 1966–2007.

Sarah Hannah was a good friend of the publication and active member of the poetry community. Our condolences go out to her family, friends, and all of her readers. (Sky Pencil (Ilex creanata) and The Riddle of the Sphinx Moth appear in the current issue.)
