Searching the HOLLIS (Harvard OnLine Library Information System) Classic Catalog

Introduction

Note: As of April 2009, a new discovery platform called HOLLIS was introducted to the Harvard community. The original catalog for the Harvard libraries referred to in this guide still exists and has been renamed "HOLLIS Classic."

This guide provides students and researchers with a basic overview of searching the Harvard OnLine Library Information System (HOLLIS Classic) Catalog.

The HOLLIS Classic catalog contains entries for many, but not all, materials in formats other than books and journals owned by the Harvard University Libraries (e.g., manuscripts, maps, visual media, microforms and government documents). For access to these materials, supplement HOLLIS Classic searching with searches of other Harvard online catalogs, as well as catalogs and/or finding guides of individual Harvard libraries and special collections that represent your area of interest. Other online catalogs at Harvard include the Baker Library Online Catalog, Visual Information Access (VIA) system, Online Archival Search Information System (OASIS), and the Harvard Geospatial Library.

If, after using the search techniques shown here, you cannot find what you are looking for in HOLLIS Classic, please do get in touch with a research librarian via the Ask a Librarian form or by telephone (numbers are listed at: http://hcl.harvard.edu/research/at_hcl/#contact_info) for further assistance.
